The way to ... nowhere

“Hello, stranger!”

“Do I know you?”

“No, you don’t. And you don’t need to know me. Let’s just leave it like this for now … I had a dream last night, by the way. A dream about you and me.”

“But how? We just met. Who are you?”

“I am me. Exactly the way you are you. Names are not important in a world where people belong together.”

“Together? You and I? I don’t know …”

“No, no … don’t get me wrong. I’m not one of the se people that would try to trick you and ruin the rest of your life. Trust me. I know you … You’re like me. You love reading, don’t you?

“Yes, I do.”

“You are honest and hate lying to your friends, right?”

“Yes.”

“You are one of those people that want to make the world a better place … to make a difference.”

“Um, I think so … yes.”

“See, I know you. We are made for each other. I … for you and you for me. You just need to realize it.”

Lea was only 16 at that time. She was a naïve little girl that believed in the magic of shooting stars, in the fairy that would introduce her to her hero. And there he was. Her prince. 30 years older but deeply in love with her. Her significant one. Her better half. Her soul mate.

“You trust me, don’t you?”

“I do.”

“Good. Now come with me.”

“Where are we going?”

“You’ll see. Don’t ruin the surprise!”

“Ok. Lead me. Take me there, take me with you …”
He took her with him. He showed her the “way” … The way to nowhere, I guess, because Lea didn’t return. Never again. Lost forever.
No one heard her laughter again. No one saw her smile or the flame in her eyes. No one. Nor did she … herself.
